Ultrasound diagnostics — examining the organs with no radiation.
An ultrasound scan is a safe and painless diagnostic method: it helps the doctor assess the condition of the internal organs and notice any possible changes in good time. Ultrasound is performed both as prescribed by a doctor and as part of a preventive assessment.
What scans are available at the center
- echocardiography (heart ultrasound) — assessment of the structure and function of the heart;
- neurosonography (brain ultrasound) — a scan through the open fontanelle;
- hip joint ultrasound — assessment of how the joints are forming, particularly important in the first months of life;
- abdominal ultrasound — liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and other organs;
- kidney and urinary tract ultrasound — assessment of kidney structure and detection of possible changes;
- comprehensive scans as part of children's check-up programs.
When an ultrasound is worth having
- your child is having a preventive examination;
- there is abdominal pain or discomfort;
- the doctor has heard a heart murmur;
- your child tires quickly, or has developed shortness of breath or a rapid heartbeat;
- your baby's hip joints need to be checked;
- neurosonography is needed in the first months of life;
- test results have changed, or earlier scans need to be followed up;
- an ultrasound has been recommended by a pediatrician or another specialist.
An ultrasound without extra stress for your child Scans are carried out with your child's age in mind. The center has two ultrasound machines, so different scans take place in one location and the overall time is shorter. This is particularly noticeable during a comprehensive children's check-up.
